Ceramic Coating Maintenance: Layer and Reinforce or Acid Reset?
If you have a ceramic-coated car, maintenance has one job: keep the surface clean and preserve the protection already there.
You will see two broad approaches discussed online. One is to use stronger chemical washes periodically to strip contamination and expose the coating underneath. The other is to wash gently, correct specific contamination only when needed, and add compatible protection over time.

Start by working out what has changed
Reduced beading does not automatically mean a coating has failed. Road film, mineral deposits and other contamination can sit on top of the surface and change how water behaves.
Before reaching for a stronger process, wash the car properly and inspect the paint. If the issue is localised, treat the affected area rather than assuming the whole vehicle needs to be reset.
A practical ceramic coating maintenance routine
- Wash regularly. Use a pH-neutral wash process and avoid letting contamination build up for long periods.

Acidic products can be useful for mineral contamination, but they are corrective tools rather than something every coated car needs on a schedule.
The least aggressive effective process is usually the sensible starting point. If a normal wash restores the surface, stop there. If mineral deposits remain, move to a product intended for that contamination and use it only as directed.
Layering maintenance protection
Using compatible maintenance products over a coating is not the same as replacing the coating. It gives the exposed surface a fresh layer of water behaviour and makes regular care easier to manage.
