How Can You Prove a Ceramic Coating Will Last Five Years?

Before you put a coating on your car, it is reasonable to ask what sits behind an up-to-five-year claim. For Hermosa, that includes product selection, testing before release and years of use on vehicles we know.

Testing began in 2018

We evaluated more than 60 coatings from suppliers in Israel, the United Kingdom, the United States, Korea, Japan, China, Australia and New Zealand. We wanted a coating that owners and detailers could apply consistently in real working conditions.

We rejected coatings with narrow temperature windows, unpredictable flashing or a tendency to leave high spots. We looked for a stable, forgiving application and worked with mobile detailers who needed reliable behaviour outside a controlled studio. That does not remove the need to follow the application guide or work on a cool surface in suitable conditions.

Two years of testing before release

Before Hermosa Graphene Ceramic Coating went on sale, it spent two years in pre-market testing. One of our main test vehicles was a black VW Transporter in Wānaka.

Our family is involved in ski racing, so the Transporter travelled to Cardrona throughout winter. It encountered sub-zero starts, snow, ice, road grime and gravel roads. In summer, the black paint was exposed to heat and strong UV, with local temperatures sometimes approaching 40°C.

What we observed after five years

At the five-year mark, the Transporter was still in daily use. It had been maintained correctly and washed with Hermosa Ceramic Shampoo. We continued to observe strong water repellency and beading, without the coating failure or breakdown we were checking for.

That is a field observation on a maintained vehicle. It contributes to the history behind our claim, but it is not a guarantee that every car, environment or maintenance routine will produce the same service life. Beading alone is not a complete durability test.
